The Flu and other Contagious Things

The whole family, including you, have been pretty sick with the flu for the last week or so, so that’s put a damper on our regular adventures. We did manage to go grocery, thrift, and book store shopping over the course of the last two days, which was nice. At home, we’re trying to mix in new media content into your usual routine: soul and blues music is mixed in with the sleep sounds playlists, and nature documentaries and an awesome historical drama about MLK and Malcom X are interspersed in between cartoons and Disney movies. The MLK/X show lead to an interesting conversation your mom and I had about the ways humans learn to hate. She told me about a neighbor of ours who posted in a Facebook group that their young son was racist towards a black peer, which confused them because that was not behavior they were demonstrating in any way at home. My theory -take it with a grain of salt- is that it’s not enough to just not be racist to teach acceptance. You have to be exposed to differen...

Your first tooth!

You have a tiny little tooth coming out, beautiful boy! We knew it was coming because of all your teething but it felt so sudden. On Thursday February 8th, you bit through the toes on your outfit but I didn’t put it together that you might have a tooth out until the next day when you bit my finger and I felt the little jagged edge. I tried getting a picture and a video but you did not enjoy the bright flash in your eyes.  We love to see how you’re growing! Mom ❤️

Valentine’s Day

It’s not quite Valentine’s Day yet but you received your very first Valentine’s Day card in the mail! Your Grandma is so creative; she painted this gnome with watercolors. You also took Valentine’s Day pictures at school wearing a very cute new outfit. We’re looking forward to seeing those and I’ll add them to this post when we get them.

My Monkey Boy!

Watching you grow has been one of the greatest privileges and joys of my entire life. You make so much noise now! You are so close to talking! You love screaming at the top of your lungs in a super high pitch when you first wake up.  You’re adapting to daycare well, and like your teachers and classmates. You get excited when I drop you off there. So still love being read to, but now you pretend to read along with us. You love watching cartoons. Ducktails is one of your favorites. We watched Space Jam together and Sylvester made you laugh. You like petting your cats —and occasionally pulling out their whiskers—, but the dog is still too big and kind of freaks you out. We went clothes shopping and I bought you a stuffed monkey, and you love it so much. It’s your first favorite stuffed animal.  You’re eating all kinds of new foods now; sweet potatoes have been your favorite so far, but we are just getting into trying fruit baby foods, so I’m sure you’ll be a fan of a bunch...
