Our little (big) guy

Brooklyn baby! I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while. This new job of mine ended up being a lot harder than I thought but it gets easier/better each day. You don’t quite understand why I can’t play with you sometimes even though I’m right there in the other room and that breaks my heart. We’ll figure all of this out though.

You have gotten in such great adventures over the past few months. I’ll post some of my favorite pictures further down.

You’re starting to say more words and just like talking in general. On multiple occasions, you’ve said a word so clearly but when your dad or I try to show the other, you won’t say it again. Your dad says you replied “I don’t know” when he asked what you wanted to watch on TV and you and I said apple back and forth to each other a few times while snacking on some slices. You also sign a lot of words that your teachers have taught you at school, some of the more recent ones being down, please, and thank you.

You LOVE music. We can tell it’s something that is a core part of who you are. You have such grand reactions to any kind of music and especially love when you can be involved. For Christmas, we weren’t able to find you a full kid sized drum set so your Grandma and Aunt Adela helped to create your own personal drum kit with a Tom drum, and various cookie and popcorn tins all with different sounds. Your dad went to guitar center and got you Brooklyn Dodgers blue drumsticks and your drum set was complete. Now, you play those drums EVERY TIME you walk into your room. Even when we just go in to get your PJs, you want to play at least a few beats. You move the different drums around to the perfect positions for you and love experimenting with the different sounds things make when hit. You love listening to music and have your own dance that is known far and wide. You got to play drums at the same guitar center where your dad got your sticks on Christmas Eve and you honestly could have stayed in that practice room all day. Today, you got to listen to different kinds of music at The Pearl and loved every minute of it.

You are starting to become fiercely independent but still rely on some cuddles from mom and dad when you need them. You walk (strut) around with all the confidence in the world and it is one of my absolute favorite things. I let you do your thing most of the time because I’ve seen you cautiously assess situations, and determine the best course of action. I can also see in your eyes when you know something is dangerous but resolve to do it anyway and that’s usually where I step in. You’ll realize it sometime in the future but your tell is that your eyes smile with mischief. It’s also one of my favorite things

You’re growing so fast; we’re transitioning now from 18month clothes to 24month or 2T and moving into size 5 shoes. Your growth causes you to be a little clumsy (same thing happened to me when I grew you) so you’ve had your fair share of bumps and bruises. You never let it bother you though, you just dust yourself off and keep it moving (sometimes after a healing hug or kiss from mama or dada)

I’m sure there’s so many more great memories I’ve missed and that’s why I’ll make sure to post more frequently. You are such a joy to be around, Brooklyn. I am thankful every day that I get to be your mom.

Drummer Boy

You love music! You listen to records and dance, play drums, and scratch on a little portable turntable. You’re amazing! It so much fun watching you develop and grow. You are talking so much now! My favorite is when you say “wow”, it’s so cute! Recently, you went to your first Fiesta event, an Indian Festival at Hemisfair, and have hung out with your cousins in Austin. So much fun! You love playing outside, bouncing balls, going on walks, and playing in the mud. Spider-Man is your all time favorite, you call him dadoowah. We are so fortunate to have you as a son! I love you! -Your dad, Kerry

Happy New Year

Brooklyn, I’m sorry I haven’t updated this more often. Life sure is hectic nowadays. You’re growing so fast! You can form sentences and we can communicate better with each day.  Every single day you do something that completely blows me away. You are so smart, talented, brave, funny, and kind. I like that we are developing hobbies together. It’s so fun to watch you get excited over basketball, or Spider-Man, or music, or monster trucks, or trains. We grew broccoli sprouts together last month. You ate the first batch in one sitting.  You have a little green wagon and I love going on walks with you. Although you are a really high-energy kid, you are happy to just be calm and present on a walk. It’s really an inspiring example. You honestly teach me so many things. You remind me that I need to drink more water, especially when I’m not feeling well. You remind me to always say bye to the people I care about, even when I’m in a rush. You remind me that sprouts are yummy. You...

23 Months

We’re about a week away from you being 23 months old and you just continue to grow and amaze us every day. Your favorite things: Music! You still love playing drums/ any percussion instruments but you recently got a ukulele that is the perfect size for you. You and your dad also love playing the harmonica together and it’s pretty amazing to watch.  You love listening to music and singing as well. Your favorite songs to sing are Wheels on the Bus, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Baby Shark, ABCs, and honorable mention for Blur - Song 2.  You love the outdoors, specifically trees, the moon, and the rain.  Your other special interests right now are trains, fireworks, and monster trucks. You very frequently ask for us to play videos of these things for you. We’re hoping to take you on a train ride for your birthday and your Opa has your ear plugs ready for the next Monster Truck Jam we can get to. We think it’s so funny that you love to watch fireworks because we took you ...
